Application Guidelines
Uses
Heavy traffic areas for residential, commercial, institutional and industrial installations.
Tiles: Vinyl composition, asphalt, and foam backed hardwood parquet.
Substrates
Plywood, hardboard, association grade particle board underlayments, felt lining, and alkali free concrete, asphalt, terrazzo, tile and selected sealed surfaces.
Subfloor Preparation
All substrates must be clean, dry, structurally sound, properly cured and free of dirt, oil, paint, old adhesive, wax, sealers and curing agents. Subfloor and materials are to be at least 65 °F., prior to and after installation. Concrete subfloors must be structurally sound and free of voids and cracks. Make repairs to concrete substrates to remove unsound or deteriorating areas. If needed, apply cementitious patch to any voids or cracks. Allow cementitious repair materials to cure per cementitious manufacturer’s recommendations. Lightweight concrete or gypsum-based subfloors/materials must have Titebond Concrete Primer (or equivalent) applied prior to use of adhesive. Follow directions of Titebond Concrete primer (or equivalent) before use. Rough, dried asphalt cutback areas are to be sanded smooth and cleaned. When applying over old tile, the surface must be smooth and well adhered.
Installation Recommendations
Franklin 920 may be applied by roller, brush, trowel or airless adhesive gun. On smooth surfaces, use a 1/32" U-notch trowel at the rate of 250 square feet per gallon. On rougher surfaces, use a 1/16" square-notch trowel at the rate of 150 square feet per gallon. By roller, brush or spray, apply at the rate of 135 square feet per gallon on smooth surfaces and apply heavier on rough surfaces. Minimum open time is 20 minutes, or until adhesive becomes nearly clear and no longer transfers to the finger when lightly touched. Set tiles in place carefully because they will not slide. Roll within 12 hours with a heavy linoleum roller. Restrict heavy traffic for 24 hours.
Cleanup
Allow adhesive to dry well before exposing installation to cleaning. Use water to remove adhesive spots and clean tools.
*CAUTION: Do not sand, scour or abrade any material that is suspected of containing asbestos fibers. Asbestos is known to cause cancer. Federal law requires that asbestos be handled by a licensed and certified hazardous materials contractor.
Limitations
Use in well ventilated area. Do not use over high alkaline concrete (over 9.0 pH) or over subfloor with excessive moisture (over 6 lbs. by calcium chloride test). Do not use directly over or under solid vinyl tile or sheet goods. KEEP FROM FREEZING.
Caution Statements
CAUTION: EYE AND SKIN IRRITANT. Do not swallow. Do not allow eye contact or prolonged skin contact.
