Pull together miters using everyday bar clamps

Use your bar clamps to pull together tricky miter joints using simple clamping jigs like these…

You can buy any number of commercial clamps made especially for assembling miter joints, but why bother when you can get the job done using the same bar clamps you use for most other woodworking tasks? The key to expanding the use of your bar clamps are simple clamping jigs made of strips of 1/2" plywood and small triangular scraps of wood that have one 90° and two 45° angles. Cut the strips about 1" shorter than the length of each side of the frame. Use your bandsaw to safely cut the 45° angles on the blocks. You’ll need four jigs and four clamps for each mitered frame.
