Stop glue before it has a chance to squeeze out along edges with some well-placed saw kerfs. Here’s how…

Saw kerf stops glue in its track

Anytime you glue one piece of wood atop another you run the risk of glue squeezing out the edges of the piece being attached. To catch that glue before it gets near the edge, saw a 1/8"-deep saw kerf just inside each edge. When attaching the piece apply glue only inside of the kerf – the kerf acts like a “moat” to catch the excess glue.
